We are deep in a testing round with the Pepwave MAX Transit Duo router with dual Cat-12 modems, each with 2x2 MIMO ports.

We are experimenting with a variety of antenna options and have just gotten in the new MobileMark LTMG944 9-in-1 Antenna with 4x4 cellular, 4x4 WiFi and GPS antennas.

We will be comparing it against the Poynting MIMO-3-V2 7-in-1 with 4x4 Cellular, 2x2 WiFi and GPS - along with other antenna configurations.

We have been provided the router and two antennas for evaluation by the awesome folks at MobileMustHave.com - but we have not been compensated to create this video, do our testing and nor are we affiliates. All of our extensive field testing time and reviews are paid for by our premium members. For their support, they get exclusive access to our testing results and reviews - and we pass along any affiliate kickbacks offered as higher discounts to them.

All gear will be offered back to MobileMustHave upon our completed testing, or offered to our members on a donation to charity of their choice basis.

Unser System für Internet / WLAN / Hotspot im Wohnwagen Wohnmobil Van Garten oder auch Zuhause

Poynting Antennas 31st March 2023 5:00 pm

In this video Mathias Huth, Head of Remote Consulting, shows us how he mounted a MIMO-3 antenna on the roof of his motorhome. The Huth family has been travelling in a motorhome for 2 years and need to be able to work and school remotely.

0:00 Introduction
2:31 Unpacking the MIMO-3 Antenna
5:32 Fitting the antenna on the roof
6:38 The Speedtests
7:47 Contact details

The MIMO-3 is the ideal antenna to improve your internet connectivity and speed. It gives you
- True world wide coverage including 5G and very low frequencies 410-3800 Mhz vs 698-2700 MHz
- Optimized radiation patterns for even better connection stability and reliability in urban and even very remote areas
- Higher throughput

The A-MIMO-0003-V2-12 is a 2-in-1 high performance multi frequency antenna within a single housing. The two cellular MIMO antennas (for 2G/3G/4G) covers the contemporary 698 MHz to 2700 MHz bands, as well as the new emerging LTE and 5G spectrum for 450MHz and 3.5GHz CBRS bands, which is becoming popular across the various international cellular network operators for LTE. The ultra-wideband performance of the antenna allows it to be used across different operators and technologies and is ready for future cellular technologies up to 3.8 GHz for 5G applications. The antenna exceeds the performance of most competitors due to the attention to the design of this high-performance antenna. The radiation patterns of all radiating elements provide an excellent balance between omnidirectionality, pattern diversity and good radiation abilities at the desired elevation. This is an important criterion for the transportation and marine market, which the antenna was specifically designed for.

Main applications are for commercial/industrial vehicles, marine, M2M and other IoT systems using a wide range of radio technologies, while remaining futureproof over the wide frequency band.

Mounting and testing the Poynting LTE Antenna (MIMO-3) on a Motorhome

Is high gain an important consideration for Marine Antennas?

People often often look at gain when selecting a marine antenna. In this video we look at whether higher is better in an omni-directional antenna and more specifically when selecting a marine antenna.

Poynting offers a range of antennas that are designed specifically for marine and coastal applications, where performance, quality, styling, and weather protection is critical. This range of antennas are aimed at the luxury yacht market and can also be used in other applications with harsh environments such as harbour buildings, smaller boats, buoys, etc.

The marine antenna range are designed within Poynting’s customary requirements of high performance, wide bandwidth, and exceptional quality. The range covers LTE and 5G reception at sea, as well as antennas to provide dual-band Wi-Fi distribution at sea.

Is high gain an important consideration for Marine Antennas?

Poynting Antennas 16th October 2021 11:24 am

This might be a bold statement, but we do consider the new OMNI-293 and OMNI-493, the best omni-directional LTE/5G antennas out there. These antennas were designed for marine and terrestrial use to provide improved reception on the most popular LTE/5G cellular bands. Even though they cover a very wide band from 617 MHz to 3800 MHz (incl. the LTE Band 71 as well as the 3.5 GHz CBRS band), they were designed for superior pattern control across the entire frequency range, making them the most omni-directional omni’s around!

The exceptional omni-directional performance was achieved by the unique antenna design. Conventional antenna designs, such as an array of dipoles and other similar designs, do not provide the necessary characteristics for a wide impendence and gain bandwidth antenna, while demanding near ideal radiation patterns over the whole bandwidth. Poynting has achieved this performance by using an innovative technology whereby the impedance, gain and radiation patterns are harmonised over the entire frequency range, providing superior performance at all its frequency bands.

Although both antennas are electrically the same, the OMNI-493 is specifically designed for marine applications and the OMNI-293 is targeted at inland environments:

• The OMNI-293 is designed according to IP65 requirements to prevent water and dust ingress while installed outdoors. This antenna is UV and weather protected and aimed at commercial, industrial, residential, and urban implementation.

• The OMNI-493 is the marine version of the same antenna, boasting an IP68 protection rating against water, making this antenna ideal for the most severe storms at sea. This marine antenna is also fully salt water protected so that it can be used in highly corrosive environments, including chemical and toxic environments thanks to the UV stable ASA radome material. This antenna is marketed to support 617 to 2700 MHz for marine applications, but also supports the 3400 to 3800 MHz CBRS frequency band when used inland.

Underground communication systems perform a vital role in the safety & productivity in mining and tunneling operations, where modern underground operations use communication systems to enable secure voice communications, to locate both people and machines, remote control of vehicles and systems, mining operations automation, as well as site access and security. A crucial component of the underground communication system is the antenna; a specialized antenna can improve the wireless connectivity in such an environment.

Poynting have a long history of designing and supplying specialist antennas specifically for mining and tunnel communication systems in mines. Poynting manufacture a complete WiFi and LTE range of antennas which are used in mines internationally. Of particular interest, is the circular polarised helical antenna range, called MinePoynt antennas. These antennas have gained significant popularity with our customers and have proven to substantially enhance RF propagation in these intense underground conditions, thereby complimenting the abilities of the connected LTE/WiFi/Mesh nodes and access point equipment.

Numerous customer tests in mines have been performed over the past 10 years showing MinePoynt antennas to achieve ranges 3x to 4x those obtained with a similar gain linear polarised antenna. Some initial tests in a South African coal mine demonstrated a person 1.2 km away from the access point fitted with a HELI-3 MinePoynt making perfect VoIP calls using a handheld WiFi phone. Customers reported numerous other tests done in SA gold mines and various Australian mines with similar performance.

- Why do I prefer an LPDA for mountains?
We have flat panel antennas, you have LPDAs, and you have Yagi antennas. Those are the main ones that I can think of. I mostly prefer LPDA. The reason for that is the LPDA has a consistent gain across the band. So if an LPDA antenna is designed for let's say 12 dBi gain at the low end and 12 dBi at the high end, that's what you are going to expect. Other antennas have different artifacts, which I will discuss separately but for a LPDA, you have one antenna that does basically the same thing wherever you are, no matter what. So if you operate in a low frequency, if you operate in a high frequency of what that same antenna can do, that antenna gives you the number that you expect to see.
Of course, in the LPDA 92 and the future solutions that Poynting has, they have a bracket, they have a solution so you can make it a MIMO antenna. So you can use an LPDA for a booster, such as in our case in Australia, the Cel-Fi GO. Or you can use it on the NightHawk M5, M6, the Teltonika RUT360. So the more high-end X11s, X12, X14s, those models as well. Basically the MIMO 2 antenna solution gives your modem future proof ready access to the network. In our case in Australia, band 28 obviously is the main one in the really rural areas. Going up in higher frequencies. The LPDA gives you exactly the same quality of connection coming in. You then just rely on network settings and of course, the signal would be different with the different frequencies.

For a booster, LPDA always a good design because you can have different frequencies coming to you because of network settings again, because of different environmental facts. Antenna serves you well wherever you are, no matter what the frequency is that's there. Also, the gain and the radiation pattern, it's one of those classic antennas, it just works and it works well. It does a good job at what it does. It doesn't do much to the back. Everything goes to the front. So it's a nice directional antenna. If you were to set it up and you point it in a direction, you can be assured that's the way it works.
The LPDA from Poynting specifically is a rugged design, so actually is quite reliable. If you put it in a place like such... I mean, there's still snow caps on here. This is now almost end of June and it's summer, supposed to be summer here. I'm actually a little bit freezing right now but that antenna can survive. And in Australia now, that can survive the sun and the harsh weather. Here it would survive the snow as well because there's no radome. Radome, good to protect but if there's wind and snow and all sorts of stuff, there's no extra load bearing plus snow, of course, would completely break the antenna performance if there's snow build up on the antenna because that's water. Water will not make it work so you have to wait till it melts. So LPDA, and specifically the one from Poynting antenna, it's a very narrow beam. So there's not gonna be any snow on it. That thing will just work forever. I think that's about as much as I could say.
There's going to be a new version of that LPDA coming soon. Look on rfshop.com.au. We will have the latest antenna available once it gets released and of course, this is now shot in 2022. Who knows in 10 years' time, we might still be on YouTube, then there's a new model coming out but the principles of LPDA, another reason why I love it. It's a very old antenna style, it works great. It will be here for a long time, forever. But for now, LPDA from Poynting antennas:

Poynting PUCK antenna - Dropping a weight on the antenna

Poynting Antennas 28th March 2019 12:07 pm

We drove a 2000kg Jeep Wrangler over the Poynting PUCK Antenna to see if it survives.

Poynting’s new PUCK antenna range, named after the hockey puck, is a small profile antenna for use in the IoT/M2M, Smart Meter, Smart Utilities and Transportation markets. This antenna range offers a variety of options for MIMO LTE, MIMO Wi-Fi and GPS/GLONASS within the same enclosure while keeping the implementation as simple as possible with its variety of mounting options ‘in the box’. Due to superior engineering and a solid design, this antenna provides exceptional electrical performance for its small size.

The flagship 5-in-1 antenna boasts 2×2 MIMO LTE, 2×2 MIMO Wi-Fi (Dualband 2.4GHz + 5GHz) and GPS/GLONASS antennas within one enclosure. Other variants offer a subset of this configuration. The PUCK range includes a Wi-Fi only variant and a GPS/GLONASS only variant, namely the GPS-1-V2.

The 2x Cellular MIMO antennas (for 2G/3G/4G) cover the 698MHz to 2700MHz band, which includes the most popular international LTE bands. This antenna is designed to cover the 3200MHz to 3800MHz CBRS bands, which will also be used in 5G cellular networks in various international markets, making this antenna 5G Ready! The PUCK’s 2×2 MIMO Wi-Fi antennas are both dual-band Wi-Fi antennas, providing concurrent 2.4GHz and 5GHz on each antenna, making them capable of 802.11n, 802.11ac and the more recent 802.11ax specification. The fifth antenna is a high-performance active GPS/GLONASS system operating at temperatures as low as -40ºC.

“The radiation patterns of all elements provide an excellent balance between omnidirectionality, pattern diversity and good radiation abilities at the desired elevation, which is often overlooked in such a small size antenna.” – Stephen Froneman, Product Manager at Poynting Group
This antenna exceeds the performance of many competitor products of similar size, especially at the higher frequency bands, where performance is critical for LTE throughput and connection stability.

Many Mounting Possibilities are included as standard

Poynting’s new PUCK antenna range provides easy installation with the multiple mounting options. This includes as standard:

Spigot Mount – two different lengths included (40mm & 80mm)
Vertical Pole mount (inner & outer mounting for smaller and larger poles)
Horizontal Pole Mount (e.g. marine rails)
Magnetic Mount
Surface Mount (Double Sided Tape)
Wall Mount

The new Wi-Fi Dual-Band MIMO antenna, developed by Poynting Antennas, can connect to any Wi-Fi access point whether it is older Wi-Fi technology or new dual band Wi-Fi technology. Multiple Dual Band antennas can resolve channel saturation and provide the ultimate in Wi-Fi performance and flexibility. This 4x4 MiMo antenna has 4 different antenna orientations in one enclosure. This means the antenna can be used in a 2x2, 3x3 and if necessary a 4x4 antenna configuration. The 120° beam width ensures good coverage in offices, halls and factories etc. The antenna operates in two frequency bands 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, offering excellent utilization of the radio spectrum. This Antenna has 9dBi gain at 2.4GHz band and 11dBi gain at the 5GHz band, which offers the best performance with reliable connections. The housing is made of ABS which is high impact resistant plastic and is also resistant to acids and other chemicals that may occur in industrial plants. The antenna can be opened on the side where the 4 x SMA female connectors are placed. The cable can be fed through the bypass gland, which eliminates the joint to the antenna extension cables. This eliminates connector losses and the need for taping and waterproofing the connectors for an outdoor installation. This antenna is designed for installations where 4x4 (four independent streams), multiplexing time-space technologies is needed. It can be used indoors or outdoors and is ideal for use in warehouses, production facilities, building sites or any other environment that requires Wi-Fi connectivity, such as computers, mobile phones, tablets, and any other IOT devices.

Application areas
• Offices • Factories • Poor data signal reception (indoor or outdoor) • Warehouses • Open mine areas and areas with a lot of radio frequency noise. • M2M
