We installed a Poynting LPDA-92 Antenna as donor antenna 5 km from the orchard. The signal was amplified using 2 x W15 Amplitec dual band repeaters. These are typically used as an in-house solution but we daisy chained them and combined them with a 2m sector antenna to provide an affordable small cell solution. The 5 km distance covered from the donor antenna is far beyond what the design specifications of the amplifiers are.
The signal in the orchard after the installation was -86dBm to -91dBm between 3G and LTE respectively. At the donor antenna itself it was -76dBm. Reading in the orchard was more than enough for the probes and additionally voice calls were now also possible from the orchard.
𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿. This a just another example of the “Boer maak ‘n plan” (farmer makes a plan) attitude of the Inteto Connect employees – as they come up with very unique solutions for their customers.
