The Challenge
Touring across Europe in his motorhome, author John Laidler depends on a reliable cellular internet connection. John uses the internet to research the places he is visiting He also needs to upload the many photos he takes to illustrate within his books.Using a MiFi device generally gave good performance, but getting a reliable connection in remote areas was difficult.
The Solution
The customer opted to implement a permanent antenna on the roof of his motorhome in order to get the best possible signal during his tours.After looking into a few options for suitable antennas, John decided to use the Poynting MIMO-1-1 antenna.
This antenna is a rugged high-performance vehicle mounted antenna, capable of 2×2 MIMO on LTE. Another variant of this antenna, the MIMO-1, which is a 5-in-1 antenna with 2x GSM/3G/LTE, 2x WiFi and a GPS, is also an option.
The external Poynting antenna is connected to a MiFi device which distributes WiFi within the motorhome.
Biography
John Laidler is a retired Charted Engineer who has become an author of books about touring Europe in a motorhome. His first book “Two Go to Spain” is available on Amazon as both a Kindle eBook and a paperback. His second book, “Two Go to Italy” will be published in the first half of 2018.
The Result
Poynting’s external antenna helped the author to quadruple his upload speeds in both poor coverage and good coverage areas.Time spent on the tedious uploads of data can now be spent on experiencing the scenery or authoring his next masterpiece.
